2. Drain and Flush the Tank Annually


Sediment buildup at the bottom of the tank reduces heating efficiency and can cause damage. Flushing the tank removes these deposits:


  • Turn off the power or gas supply to the tank

  • Attach a hose to the drain valve at the bottom

  • Drain the water into a safe area or bucket

  • Open the cold water supply to flush out remaining sediment
