AC Unit Cleaning - get ready for the Heat!

Outside A/C Condensing Unit

These units move air through fins that look much like the radiator in your car. These A/C fins need to be cleaned annually to ensure a longer life and optimum efficiency of your AC Condensing unit.

The first step is turning off the Power to the unit, depending on where you live and the age on the unit typically these is a sub-panel outside next to the unit.

Cleaning can begin by removing panels on the outside of the unit. You also have the option to remove the fan assembly for easy access while washing.

Next, use a dry paint brush to remove larger buildup of of debris then hose out the fins (Note if you removed the top fan unit, spraying the hose from the inside will likely do a better job. (Note there are also cleaning products made that are sprayed onto fins before washing that may provide a better result, this can be picked up at any home Center.)

Once cleaning/spraying of fins is completed reinstall cover panels (and Fan unit if removed), turn on Breaker and you are done.
