Its Spring Time - Maintenance Items for Homeowners

ree

After our Canadian Winters its important to do a walk around the exterior of our homes, performing maintenance while also identifying any potential concerns with our homes....

WHY is this Important...

  • You like your home to look nice , Yes? - regular maintenance improves the appearance of your home!

  • You want to Identify potential problem areas before they become major issues!

  • Fewer issues maintains and grows the value in your home!

ITEMS to think about on the Exterior of your home during your walk around: (Water or Moisture is the major risk to any home!)

  • Lot or Landscape slope around the foundation. Grading around the foundation should be such as to drain water away...be careful with mulch or rocks bed landscaping as water runs through this decorative coverings to the earth below, which could be sloped towards your foundation.

  • Check seals and caulking around doors, windows.

  • Check the Foundation and Wall Coverings for cracks, mechanical damage, etc. - remember water entering the house anywhere is a potential problem in the making!

  • From the ground view the Roof, Gutter and Downspout system for damage or wear, if you have a set of Binoculars it can be helpful! Ensure trees and vegetation are not rubbing on the roof or wall coverings, this can create premature wear and eventually be a spot for water infiltration. And don't forget to clean those gutters regularly!

  • Now is also a good time to have a good look at your garage vehicle door, I don't know about you, but my family uses it to enter the house more often than any other door.... Ensure it operates in the tracks properly and the safety sensors and door reverse limit is set properly!

  • Have a good look at Walkways and Driveways, our Freeze and Thaw cycles can cause cracks and trip hazards....

A Professional Home Inspection is not only for Selling or Purchasing of homes, it can be beneficial as a annual piece of mind for any home owner.... Livingstone Home Inspections is here to help!

Happy Spring to all!
