Check for any damage on the roof before the snow flies, this can be done easily from the ground, or for those taller homes try using a pair of binoculars.
Check the facia and trim work for damage or deterioration.
Have a Air Conditioner Contractor inspect and clean your outside AC unit. Getting it ready for next Spring/Summer will save time when you need it.
Check your water heater for any signs of rust or leaks.
Check, test your home's Fire and Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarms to ensure operational. Also check you homes fire extinguishers and replace if necessary.
After the leaves fall it still may be a good time to clean those gutters.
Lastly, and this is likely the most important for our Edmonton winters, disconnect all water hoses from outside taps to ensure taps don't hold water and freeze over the winter. Frozen hose bibs (Taps) are a major cause in home water damage during the spring time thaw!
Happy Autumn everyone!
